M.Phil/Ph.D/LL.D Programme Admission-2013
Applications are invited for admission to the following Research Degree Programmes
M.Phil (1 year) programme
Ph.D (3 years) programme
LL.D (3 years) programme
M.Phil:
The candidate shall have an LL.M degree from recognized university
securing ‘B+’ grade or an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent
Duration:
The candidates are required to carry out research for a minimum period
of one year from the date of registration, which includes residential
requirement and submit the thesis within a maximum period of three
years
Failure to complete within the stipulated time (3 years) will lead to cancellation of registration
Admission Procedure: Application along with the research proposal of about 10 to 12 pages to be submitted within the stipulated time
The research proposal should contain;
title; statement of the problem and the background information on the
subject; a set of research questions along with Hypothesis and
Methodology; a Research Design containing chapters
The research proposal for inter
disciplinary research shall have components which have a bearing on
legal aspects, review and reform
Admission Test:
There shall be a written test which will consist of two papers;
Paper-I Research Methodology; Paper-II Research Proposal specific paper
Each paper shall carry maximum of 100
marks and the candidate securing not less than 50% marks in each paper
will qualify for making an oral presentation before the expert panel
The Foreign Nationals are exempted from taking the admission test
Selection Procedure:
The candidates will be selected by the PG council upon consideration
of the report submitted by the expert panel on the presentation
LL.D/Ph.D Degree Programme
Eligibility
LL.D: Ph.D in Law from a
recognised university with minimum 10 years of teaching and
exceptional academic achievement in the field of law
Ph.D (Law): The
candidate shall have an LL.M degree from recognized university securing
‘B+’ grade or an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent
Ph.D (inter-disciplinary):
The candidate having a master’s degree in any discipline through
regular stream with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade and a
bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized university through regular
stream shall be eligible for admission
The candidate having passed the Company
Secretaryship examination conducted by the ICS in India and been
awarded Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) and having a
bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized university through regular
stream shall be eligible for admission
The candidate having passed the
Chartered Accountants examination conducted by the Institute of
Chartered Accountants and been awarded Membership of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants and having a bachelor’s degree in Law from a
recognized university through regular stream shall be eligible for
admission

UGC NET/JRF, SLET and M.Phil, Ph.D and the Foreign Nationals are
exempted from taking the admission test

Application Form: Fill in the application form legibly and give all the information required
The filled in application form along
with a demand draft of Rs 2,000/- (Rs two thousand only) drawn in
favour of Registrar, NLSIU and payable at Bangalore, along with the
Research Proposal and other necessary enclosures to the Registrar,
NLSIU, Nagarbhavi, PB No-7201, Bangalore-560072 on or before 31st March, 2013
Important Dates
Last date for receipt of application with the research proposals: 31st March, 2013
Date of admission test: 04th May, 2013
Presentation of research proposal before the panel of experts by candidates successful in admission test: 07th-08th June, 2013
Last date for payment of registration fee by candidates admitted to the research degree programmes: 27th June, 2013
Date of commencement of the course work by candidates admitted to the research degree programmes: 01st July, 2013Duration of the course work: 01st July, 2013 to 30th September, 2013
